Harry Potter films all coming to HBO TV and streaming in 2018

How many galleons does an HBO Now subscription cost?

Harry Potter fans will soon be able to stream all eight films in the series in one place: They’ll all be available on HBO platforms starting Jan. 1, 2018, the network announced today.

The movies will join the Potter prequel that Warner Bros. Pictures released a year ago, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is already part of the HBO library. In addition to making all eight Harry Potter films available via HBO On Demand, HBO Now and HBO Go, the network will air them in a marathon — with Fantastic Beasts tacked on at the end — starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone at 9 a.m. ET/PT on Monday, Jan. 1.

The marathon will end in the early morning of Jan. 2, and starting that night, HBO Family will air all nine films in order — one each day at 8 p.m ET/PT. The broadcasts will end with Fantastic Beasts on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Obviously, this is great news for people who happen to subscribe to HBO (or know someone who does). The Harry Potter films have a checkered past when it comes to being available via streaming services, at least for immediate playback as part of a subscription. People have been able to rent or buy them from services like Amazon Video and iTunes, but you can Google “Harry Potter streaming” and find a lot of sad news articles and forum posts explaining that no, sorry, you can’t watch Goblet of Fire on Netflix.
