SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV/WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — President Joe Biden will visit Central New York next week to formally announce the $6.1 billion award of CHIPS funding to Micron, sources familiar with the White House plans confirmed to NewsChannel 9.

The visit is scheduled for some time on Thursday, April 25, sources say, but the exact timing and locations are still being finalized.

The president is expected to formally announce a deal with Micron, in which the federal government will provide $6.1 billion of money from the CHIPS and Science Act.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced the preliminary terms of the deal on Wednesday, April 17.

Most of the awarded money will go to the company’s Town of Clay megafab. A smaller portion will go to the company’s expansion at its headquarters in Boise, Idaho.

President Biden was last in Syracuse immediately after Micron first announced its $100 billion project to be built in the White Pine Commerce Park along Route 31, which promised to bring 50,000 jobs to the Central New York region.
