Manchester City have suspended a partnership with a cryptocurrency company after questions were raised about the identities of several executives said to represent the firm.

The club announced a regional partnership with 3Key Technologies last week but none of the company’s executives named on a statement had any online presence. 3Key is said to be registered in the Seychelles but no record of it exists on that country’s companies register.

Cryptocurrencies are digital currency systems that originated during the financial crisis amid criticism of the way in which banks were looking after people’s savings. They can be traded as assets but there are concerns about the way in which they are regulated.
