The Recruit‘s mission is far from over: Netflix has renewed the Noah Centineo-led spy thriller for Season 2, TVLine has learned.
Season 1 dropped Dec. 16 and debuted at No. 3 on Nielsen’s U.S. ranking of streaming originals during its first week of eligibility (and with just three days of viewing), and held steady at No. 3 the following week.
“I’m thrilled to dive back into the fun, funny, action-packed world of The Recruit,” series creator Alexi Hawley said in a statement Thursday. “Seeing how invested our audience became in the show’s adventurous take on the spy world and Noah’s turn as Owen has been incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait to turn it all up to ’11’ in Season 2.”
Added EP/star Centineo: “I know I speak for our entire cast and executive team at eOne and Netflix when I say that we are thrilled to be returning to The Recruit for a second season. I’m looking forward to seeing what Alexi Hawley has in store for us all.”
For the uninitiated: The Recruit centers on Centineo’s Owen Hendricks, “a young CIA lawyer whose first week on the job turns upside down when he discovers a threatening letter by former asset Max Meladze (Laura Haddock), who plans to expose the agency unless they exonerate her of a serious crime,” according to the official logline. “Owen quickly becomes entangled in a dangerous and often absurd world of power politics and mischievous players, as he travels the world in hopes of completing his assignment and making a mark at the CIA.”
Per Netflix, Season 2 will pick up after the events of Season 1’s cliffhanger, which saw Owen and Max captured with their lives endangered.
TVLine’s Streaming Scorecard has been updated to reflect The Recruit‘s renewal. Are you looking forward to Season 2?
Maybe they will actually wrap up the season long storyline. That was frustrating about season 1. I understand the need/desire to have a cliffhanger(s), but at least wrap up the main storyline and introduce a new issue. Who they introduced at the end wasn’t a surprise or a “new” storyline. I’m glad it got renewed bc I was kinda ticked they didn’t answer many questions at all.
Finally some good news on the renewal/cancelation front.
I’d still like to see a Noah try and swing a substantial guest appearance on Good Trouble before it ends.
Glad it got renewed, looking forward to the sudden and nonsensical cancellation to arrive once they are in post production!
LOL Right!!! I want to get excited but why at this point. Wait until they give a release date.
I loved The Recruit, reminded me of the excellent series Patriot, but the storyline tended to drag out toward episode 6. They needed to wrap it up sooner. Hoping next season becomes more episodic and gives him different assignments.
Enjoy the reccruit. But I’m waiting for the return of All Rise. After it was dropped by CBS and picked up by OWN I was thrilled, but, it’s only been 1 season. Are there more to come?
Really enjoyed season 1, can’t wait for season 2, this was just fun easy watching, not as serious as Jack Ryan. and sometimes less serious is better.
Yay! Great cast and storyline! I was hopeful we could get a resolution to the story.
I’m really glad this was renewed! And while it may not actually connect, I assumed this was getting renewed when Fivel Stewart (Hannah) only appears as a guest star on Fox’s Alert even though she’s been in every episode thus far and seems like a main character. I doubt she can be a regular on both and the Recruit looks like it takes a long time to film between all the locations.
I genuinely loved the season 1, Can anyone tell me the expected Release Date of Season 2?
